In terms of a dehumidifier that comes with and automatic pump, this one works great. In fact, if you have a sink or drain in the basement, you are much better off by using the pump. Many people choose to buy this model specifically for the pump system as you can run the dehumidifier for as long as you like if you are not using the bucket. It only has a 40 pint bucket which is very average. It will still be enough so that it will only fill up every day or two depending on the moisture level. However, it is best to choose this model for the pump as there are cheaper alternatives if you are only going to use it for the bucket. But for the money, this is one heck of a pump system.
Plan on the DeLonghi having an average lifespan when compared to other dehumidifiers so do not plan on this dehumidifier lasting 15 years. Modern dehumidifiers tend to last 5 years or less so expect that to be around the life of your dehumidifier. There are a couple other brands out there that you will pay more for that you might get a slightly longer life out of, but the DeLonghi DE400 40 Pint Dehumidifier is priced just about right for its lifespan. It comes with a 5 year warranty so even if it does break in less than 5 years then you are covered.
There have been customer complaints about customer service. As the time of writing the article, there were still negative customer service complaints coming out for the DeLonghi brand specifically so it may not be a comfortable experience. However, many other manufacturers such as Haier have the same problems. Outsourcing and small customer service budgets seem to have spread across the dehumidifier manufacturers with the exception of Whirlpool which you are going to pay a lot more for so buying DeLonghi to save a hundred dollars over Whirlpool might very well be a good idea.
In general, this dehumidifier is a good buy for those looking for a quality dehumidifier with an amazing pump system. It is ideal for basements with a drain as you can leave it for weeks or possibly even months at a time without having to mess with it.
