This week’s episode of My Forever Studio, in partnership with Audient, sees UK producer Flava D spill the beans on her dream studio setup.
Having started out making UK garage and bassline as part of Elijah and Skilliam’s historic Butterz label, Flava D’s transition to drum ‘n’ bass in recent years has been keenly ogled at. It’s easy for a producer to widen their musical horizons and for it to be picked apart by fans. For Flava D, however, the move has been accepted as smoothly as, well, butter.
Her incredible track All We Ever Do, for example, is liquid gold – melancholic keys, soulful vocals and the baritone, seductive lyrics of DRS over crisp drums and bass. Also, her remix of Sinner by LP Giobbi and Bklva, too, is yet more proof that she’s worthy of being named as one of the most exciting names in drum ‘n’ bass right now.
She’s still not afraid to dip back into more 4×4-style UK bass sounds, however, and that’s evident on her recent remix of DJ Q, Star.One and Lily Mckenzie ‘s Love me Like. And you just have to remind yourself of 2016’s smash collaboration with My Nu Leng, Soul Shake, to remember the firepower Flava D possesses when it comes to festival tent-shaking anthems.

We also talk about the huge number of festivals she’s playing this year, what it was like making music for a while in a camper van in Joshua Tree, and how she’d love to collaborate with Disclosure.
